The West Lakes Surgery Center is an 82,700 sq/ft outpatient surgery center featuring seven operating rooms, two procedure rooms, and associated pre-operation and recovery areas. Complete with 21,000 sq/ft of underground parking, the surgery center also features a 23-hour extended stay area.  In 2010 a MRI suite, physical therapy, orthopedics, and anesthesiologist services were added to the facility.  The entire Mercy Wellness Campus, including this building, is set to achieve the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Core and Shell Certification.

Baker Group was responsible for the complete design / build mechanical, plumbing, temperature controls, and security systems. Some of the highlights include a dedicated air handling unit (fed by a 110-ton chiller, boiler, and steam generating humidifier) that serves the operating areas, HEPA filtration, complete medical gas distribution system, and web-based DDC controls.

Designing the building’s control system with the flexibility to meet future tenant’s requirements while still maintaining the project’s budget, Baker Group’s engineers also incorporated specific user requirements of temperature, humidity, and air quality for the surgical and procedure area.
