Andie Newberry is an industrial project scheduler and cost controller at Baker Group. Her job entails working with project team members on utilizing drawings, estimates and our in-house subject matter experts on developing a workable plan to help clients and Baker Group successfully complete projects on time and within budget.

“I take all these pieces of the puzzle and create an executable and visually understandable plan,” she says. “This goes from procurement, detailing, prefabrication, order of install, coordination, durations and crew sizes, all the way to accurately presenting proper project cash flows so owners can better plan internally.”

Newberry has noticed this sector of the construction industry thriving as owners are realizing the plan is becoming just as crucial as the building and often a key indication of success.

She says she was led to the construction industry because the work was exciting.

“I loved the idea of being a part of a team that secures, plans and builds on a large level in places the public utilizes every single day,” she says.

Newberry says the industry is growing, like so many others, in its acceptance of moving beyond many gender biases. Newberry has been surprised by how very supportive so many in the field are to what she does and in helping her learn and succeed.

“I have developed some long-lasting relationships with many of them, and I am quite thankful to have them believe in me and count me as part of their team.”

Newberry works on Baker Group’s industrial projects and says every project has been exciting because there is always a new or expanding process we are working on. The nature of the equipment needed and the atmosphere of the projects allow for new opportunities to learn because they are all so different and unique to each process and project.

“I am challenged and grow on each and every project,” she says. “The challenges match my desire to continue to learn and my never-ending curiosity on how things work. I love them all.”
