This grand manor home built in 1877 is now a museum and performing arts center. The original house and gallery display an impressive collection of 19th and 20th century paintings as well as 17th century furniture and ancient artifacts. The theater added on in 1923, continues to host an impressive array of world renounced musicians and local performing arts events. The Hoyt Sherman Place Foundation’s goal is to return Hoyt Sherman Place Theater to its former glory - in both use and appearance.
Phase I involved restoring the Theater auditorium to its original beauty, upgrading the lighting and sound systems, and making renovations that will provide for safety and comfort of the patrons and performers such as installing the Theater’s first air conditioning system.
Baker Group was responsible for the addition of air conditioning to this 90 year old historic landmark. This was accomplished with as minimal impact on the finishes in the space as possible. There was no disturbance by the new cooling system of any existing ornate plaster work, which dominates the auditorium. There was only 21 holes cut through the existing plaster in the theater total. As much as possible, the original decorative radiators were kept at all possible locations with other modifications to the heating system occurring unseen.
