Idea Build Works
Baker Group Scope
A subsidiary of the India-based Camlin Fine Sciences, CFS North America was established in 2015 to produce and supply antioxidants for North American food, feed and pet food industries. To ready CFS’s newly leased facility in Urbandale, Baker Group was contracted to provide additional ventilation, plumbing and electrical service to accommodate CFS’s specific office and laboratory processes. Start to finish, the project was completed within eight weeks.
Baker Group handled all aspects of CFS’s mechanical, plumbing and electrical needs:
- Planned and installed new HVAC and plumbing systems, new and relocated area and task lighting, specific electrical equipment power, workstation power, a complete security system and Tel-Data wiring.
- Created engineering drawings and coordinated obtaining city permits.
- Completed an electrical upgrade to accommodate a new 480-volt HVAC unit.
- Met CFS’s aggressive eight-week schedule.
Atypical HVAC installation means long-term savings
Because CFS plans to build its own facility in the future, it sought to minimize the cost of modifications. Among other cost-saving measures, Baker Group and CFS jointly opted for an atypical installation of the new $40,000, 480-volt HVAC unit: Rather than installing it on the rooftop, the unit was installed on the ground level with ductwork entering through a garage door. This will enable it to later be moved to CFS’s permanent home.
Collaboration simplifies project
“We collaborate closely both with our client and internally across our business units. That’s how we were able to complete the scope of this project on time and entirely in-house, whereas three or four different companies would typically be needed to complete a project like this,” says Mark Ohlinger, Baker Group’s project manager for the CFS project. “Our collaborative and turnkey performance makes everything very easy for our client.”
